In the big cities of India, every year, an entire week is devoted to the careful observation of road safety measures. Transport departments of different states give slogans, put up posters and distribute leaflets in schools and colleges to increase awareness about road safety throughout the week.
When young, children should be taught how they should behave or walk on the road at an early age, they develop a positive behavior and attitude that helps them to avoid accidents. While going to a school bus, children must never hang their hands or heads outside windows.
We should know the importance of zebra crossings and should make a habit of using them while crossing a road. We should teach our children to abstain from playing on roads or pavements for, is running behind their toy or ball, they may become unfortunate victims of dangerous calamities.
The approach of the safety system is to ensure safe driving and stop dangerous injuries and deaths. Only when we are watchful while driving, we are safe on the roads. While driving, we must strictly follow specific rules like wearing seat belts, maintaining a safe distance from another vehicle and not over-speeding, to make sure no accidents occur on the road.
There are three types of road safety symbols – mandatory, cautionary and informatory that indicates us about the condition of a road ahead and instructs us what we require to do at important junctions and crossroads. By being aware of these symbols, we can affirm that we are safe from problems.
